Pret A Manger Opens First Chicago Location

The Windy City has become the first U.S. market outside of New York and Washington, D.C. to welcome a Pret A Manger restaurant. The London-based quick-service chain opened a store in the downtown Loop two weeks ago, and has plans to expand in Chicagoland during the next three years. Pret A Manger is a privately held company with more than 240 store locations in the U.K., Hong Kong and the U.S. Every store’s kitchen prepares daily, from scratch, grab-and-go meals such as sandwiches, salads, baked goods and coffee.

Pret A Manger stores source locally when possible, and the chain has partnered with The Greater Chicago Food Depository to donate all unsold food at the end of each day.

"We’ve had the pleasure of donating more than 1.7 million products to charities in the United Kingdom each year, and together with The Greater Chicago Food Depository, we’re looking forward to giving back to those in need in Chicago," said Sebastian Wright, head of commercial operations.
